Fighting Spam

Metamail firmly supports legislation and industry initiatives such as Sender ID that are designed to curtail the activities of those who continue to send unsolicited commercial email (UCE), commonly referred to as spam. Frankly, we hate spammers.

We see legislation as one of the tools necessary in the fight to end spam. Technology, industry self-regulation and consumer education all play an important role in helping curb this growing problem.

Metamail allows companies to capture and process customer product-registration information, and, where applicable, personally identifiable information including email addresses. Companies using the Metamail message format to develop an email dialogue with their customers must receive and maintain an opt-in record for each recipient. Further, we strongly advocate the Direct Marketing Association's (www.dma.org) four pillars of responsible email marketing:

  • Honest subject lines
  • Accurate header information that has not been forged
  • A physical street address for consumer redress
  • An opt-out mechanism that truly works and is honored

Metamail continues to work towards developing new and innovative ways to help prevent spam and enrich electronic communications the world over.
